Jimmy Jenkins Empty Jimmy Jenkins

I received the very sad news that our former striker Jimmy Jenkins lost his battle with cancer yesterday.  Some of us older fans are always going on about the wonderful team under Brian Godfrey which won the Southern League title in 77/78. Having joined the club from Minehead half way through that season Jimmy’s goals played a vital part in our success. In all he scored 77 in 220 appearances. The website archive states...

Striker Jimmy spent two spells at Twerton Park, first signing for City from Minehead in January 1978 to boost the club's Southern League title ambitions. A difference of opinion with manager Stuart Taylor early in the 1981-82 season saw Jimmy join Old Georgians then Forest Green Rovers, but he was back with City the following season on non-contract terms. Was released at the end of that campaign and joined Frome Town.

The Club will make an announcement some time tomorrow.

RIP Jimmy

Very sorry to read this. Jimmy was a very talented player but could be frustrating at times. If he was not in the right frame of mind he could be ineffective but if he wanted to play then he was very good. He never seemed to be particularly quick but had the ability to go past defenders and sometimes after he left a couple of defenders floundering you would wonder how he did it.
A player who I always thought could have played at a higher level if he really wanted to and put his mind to it.
I think he was also a more than useful local cricketer for a number of years.
RIP Jimmy.

He scored some important goals in that championship season, including the first one in the game at Leamington when it was finally clinched.

RIP Jimmy
