Shortwood are a club who are supported by about 100 people at their end of the village. A muddy lane leads to their ground and they have to use a minibus to shuttle people to and from the bottom of the lane because coaches cannot get up. With talk of FGR moving to a site near the M5 just outside Gloucester I asked a Nailsworthite if Shortwood would fancy moving to the New Lawn. "never", he replied, Shortwood is a tight community and they would never leave their home. If FGR move close to Gloucester it might just about finish Gloucester City off. Windmill man has ambitions to reach the Championship, he needs to move to a larger conurbation to achieve decent grounds.

Recalling last year's FA Cup achievement on their part should ensure that we certainly won't take them lightly. They drew with Conference Aldershot at home, then outplayed them in the replay to win 2-1. I don't know how many of that team remain but they're clearly no pushovers - however I'm confident we'll approach the game respecting but not fearing the opposition. I think their top striker Duncan Culley from last season and mentioned in the article has gone to Bromley now. Other scorer and captain from last year also have left since their heroics last season.....but still need to show respect - particularly with their knack for last minute goals (and City's performance in the last 5 mins at home to Poole).

Then again it's not exactly a footballing hotbed. They sound a bit like the Gloucestershire version of Larkhall. Hopefully they don't possess a player that has a shot like Alex Sykes did.

I meant more in terms of the location of the ground (I believe someone said a coach can't go the whole way there?) and how they're arguably over-achieving playing in the Southern League South/West. I've only just realised Larkhall were doing well in it as well, perhaps this Gosport game being postponed is for the best seeing as they stuck seven past them. I'd better re-word my column...

So it looks like they get themselves up for Cup games. They beat Oxford City 2-1 in the last round. Since when have City ever made life easy for the fans?? Strap yourself in for the next ride on the rollercoaster !
