Comparing 2016/17 to 15/16... Empty Comparing 2016/17 to 15/16...

(league only)

We scored 23 goals more in 16/17. 32 goals in the first half compared to 21 the year before. More importantly, only eight conceded in first 15 minutes, it was 15 in the same period in 15/16. Conceded 30 second half goals in each of the past two seasons.

Nine points rescued after scoring first last season, compared to 11 the year before.
We scored the first goal 21 times rather than 16 in 15/16. Went on to win 17 of the 21 games and 11 of the 16.

In 2015/16, we won 10 of our 13 victories by the odd goal. One win by two, one by three and one by four or more.
In 2016/17, we won 7 of our 18 victories by the odd goal. Four wins by two goals, three wins by three and four by four or more.

Most goals scored (20) and most conceded (15) both arrived in the final quarter hour of matches. We scored around 45% of our goals in the first half, and 55% second (obviously), conceding is 42%/58%.

We won less than 5% of matches having conceded first. Only Margate, Oxford City and St Albans had a worse record. After conceding first 22 times, St Albans failed to bounce back and win. Margate conceded first 30 times, going on to win one, draw one and lose 28. In contrast, Ebbsfleet came back to win six out of 12 matches having conceded first.

We won nine points from losing positions and threw away 10. Ebbsfleet and Chelmsford both won 20 when behind, whereas Truro won seven and lost 33.

That'll do for now.

Nice to see the bare facts back up my overall impression that this season has been far more enjoyable to watch.

I see Paul Williams says the budget has been enhanced for next season so with shrewd recruitment we could really build. Most of GOs signings have done well this season especially loanees and indeed it was the loanees that made a difference last year. I know most people are nervous about having too many loanees but it shows they can be, and have been, a success.
