Re: Friendly Rumour
'Mini West Country tour'. Hope our players don't suffer from homesickness with those trips to Ciren and Chipping Sodbury.

Ah, Partick Thistle. The Jags are my Scottish team. Excellent club. If there was an away fixture, it would be even better.

Aye, lets have a return leg next summer. Return flights from Bristol will likely be cheaper than the train to Torquay

Re: Friendly Rumour
One of my best away trip was going tup to see Wales beat Scotland at Hampden on a Friday then going to Firhill on Saturday. Glasgow is a brilliant city, it was snowing fantastically and I had a Macaroni Cheese pie at Firhill (which does exactly what it says on the tin) and a Hampden pie at, erm, Hampden. Almost getting a kicking from Cardiff City hooligans didn't even put a dampener on the weekend.

Intended to go to Firhill while up there in January but was rained off, settled for Pollok instead, another decent club in black and white stripes. Aye, crackin' city.

Re: Friendly Rumour
Thistle website says they are yet to confirm. Great if we can get them.

Re: Friendly Rumour
If we do play them wouldn't it be good and in the spirit of a friendly if they wore those famous stripes (hoops?) Be a good photo opportunity too.
Obviously City would change to away strip or most spectators would come away with a migraine!

Hope I read my exam questions more thoroughly this morning - I thought the big story was us playing Cirencester, who we've played in pre-season countless times.

"The Jags played Vanarama National side Eastleigh in a warm-up match before last season’s campaign and are also believed to be playing Bath City in their mini West Country tour this summer."
I believe the Jags is Thistle's nickname.

Yeah, the signing of big Nick has got them running scared. Softy (Scottish) Southerners........only joking.Luton Roman wrote:Thistle website says they are yet to confirm. Great if we can get them.

Re: Friendly Rumour
I think Rovers played a Scottish side (Inverness?) at Twerton a couple of years ago, but before then the last side from north of the border to visit us was probably the national team under 17s when they played Lithuania. Still got the programme somewhere for that tournament - Wayne Rooney was on the front cover.

Re: Friendly Rumour
The Club is pleased to announce it will commence its pre-season fixtures by welcoming Scottish Premier League side, Partick Thistle, to Twerton Park on Saturday 2nd July with the match kicking off at 3pm. Admission prices will be Adults £8, Concessions £6 and U16’s £2.
A reasonable price if Partick play a strong side...will this entice comrade to attend?

Re: Friendly Rumour
Great news the Jags are due at Twerton Park. My favourite team from Glasgow, and saw them play at home last season. Also very different form the usual friendlies we get, so good news all round.
They brought a decent travelling support to a friendly they played against Derry City a good few years back and were great craic, so hopefully they'll avail in numbers of a weekend in Bath.

Re: Friendly Rumour
They play Cirencester a few days before hand after a period at Bath Uni - at last we have a link between teams training there and a friendly.
Give the Scots something to look forward to over the next month.........

Re: Friendly Rumour
Really jarred off about that. First day of the Tour de France so of course I won't be at Twerton. Oh well, c'est la vie. Would love to have been there for that one.

Re: Friendly Rumour
I think that's what I'm most interested in, seeing how good (or not) a top flight Scottish team is compared to the other teams we play pre-season.

Re: Friendly Rumour
Surely that will depend on the relative strengths of the teams that City face in those friendlies. Although I won't be there, I'm sure Partick will attract a decent crowd and much needed income for our club. However, I would wager that they would struggle at the bottom end of the English Championship, such is the dreadful standard of Scottish club football.
