Well done Ken!
If you haven't watched his more recent films, such as The Angels Share, Route Irish and Looking For Eric, then you have to, NOW!
He's a nice guy too, if you ever get to meet him on the terraces. ;-)

Really enjoyed the event at The Watershed for 'Jimmy's Hall' and Ken's speech afterwards - would be nice if something similar could be arranged for this film.

Yes,
Well done again, Ken!
I agree with LB it would be great to celebrate with him with a fundraiser - perhaps at the Beau Nash (Komedia as the youngsters know it), as with 'Escape to Victory'?

I believe that there will be a short interview, related to the club, on Points West tonight, 23 May

Congratulations Ken on winning the Palme D'Or.
It is sometimes easy to forget that the friendly, unassuming, gentle man who is so willing to chat to us on the terraces at Twerton Park is an internationally celebrated film director. I for one feel very privileged to know him. Long may his great talents continue to be celebrated.

Surely now is the time for the Ken Loach directed Hollywood blockbuster that would clear our debts in one go!
(this is a joke as I fully understand and respect his principles)

Re: Ken wins at Cannes
I see that next Friday (3rd June) a film is being released about Ken's career, entitled Versus:The Life and Films of Ken Loach.
As far as I can tell it is only being shown in Bath on Sunday 5th at the Little Theatre when there is a 'Pay What You Can' performance at 12.30pm; there is another of these at the Watershed (where I believe it is being shown from the 3rd) at 6pm that day with a Q&A session with Ken. The tickets for these performances are apparently on a 'first come first served' basis.

I believe the Little Theatre is referring to this special screening as "Pay What You Ken"

Re: Ken wins at Cannes
I saw the film last night. It is packed with insightful interviews including very generous pieces by Ken and his family. But, don't expect Brian Blessed - rather Jim Allen!
For those of us who are acquainted with Ken, it gives a very full picture of the man and what drives him.
Bath City FC are credited - but I will need to see it again to work out why (unless a few shots of the Abbey and Bath Spa station count)?

I still didn't spot the reason for the credit to Bath City FC?

Re: Ken wins at Cannes
Versus is available on DVD @ £12.50
If you want to buy a copy and support a cause ken would approve of go to web-site of Nicaragua Solidarity
http://www.nicaraguasc.org.uk/shop/CDs%20&%20DVDs.htm
Versus is excellent introduction to Ken's work, especially (dare I say it!) for younger supporters who want to know about his early films like Cathy Come Home (also shown recently on TV) and the years he spent 'in the wilderness' when no-one would finance his projects.

Re: Ken wins at Cannes
There was a promotion in today's Liverpool Echo regarding Ken's new film, "I, Daniel Blake" and I've managed to secure two free tickets to see the film this Sunday at the Odeon Liverpool ONE.
Happy Days!

So c'mon then - set a question so that the winner can accompany you!

Re: Ken wins at Cannes
Okay then, here's the question: Will anyone be in Liverpool tomorrow (Sun 25th Sept) and do you want to see "I, Daniel Blake" for free?
It's a 10.30am ko though, and I might struggle to get there myself (I've managed to feck up my left leg and I can barely walk more than 10m without screaming in agony!). So I might just give the tickets to my brother. He can take my sisters chihuahua with him!
